  • 1/2 cup Soy sauce or gluten-free tamari
  • 1 1/2 cups Water or beef broth chicken broth can be a substitute
  • 1/4 cup Brown sugar, packed coconut sugar as alternative
  • 1 tablespoon Rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water
For Serving
  • 3 cups Cooked white rice or brown rice/egg noodles
  • 1/4 cup Sliced green onions for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame seeds for garnish

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Pat the beef stew meat dry with paper towels and season evenly with salt and black pepper.
  2. In a large Dutch oven, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add beef cubes in batches, sear for 3-4 minutes per side.
  3. Remove beef, reduce heat to medium, and sauté minced garlic and grated ginger for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add soy sauce, water or beef broth, brown sugar, and rice vinegar to the pot. Stir and bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. Return seared beef to the pot, cover tightly, and braise on low heat for 2.5 to 3 hours.
  6. Whisk cornstarch and cold water in a bowl, then stir into the sauce. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes until thickened.
  7. Return the beef to the thickened sauce, toss to coat, and serve over cooked rice garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.
