  • 0.25 cup Granulated Sugar Balances flavors beautifully; substitute with brown sugar for a hint of caramel.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Enhances overall flavor; kosher or sea salt works best.
  • 1 tablespoon Instant Yeast Leavens the dough for perfect rise; active dry yeast can be used.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Stir until even, then create a well in the center and pour in the warm milk, melted butter, and warm water.
  2. Crack in the egg and mix until the dough comes together into a shaggy ball.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a well-oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour.
  5. Combine softened butter, minced garlic, and parsley in a small bowl to create the garlic filling.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a muffin tin.
  7. Roll out the dough to a ¼ inch thick rectangle, then spread the garlic filling over it.
  8. Sprinkle the cheeses on top of the filling, then roll the dough tightly from one end.
  9. Cut the rolled dough into 1-2 inch portions and place each piece standing up in the muffin tin.
  10. Cover and let the cruffins rise for another 20 minutes before baking.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed, then cool slightly before serving.
