Step-by-Step Instructions for Creamy Broccoli Casserole
  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs with melted butter and a pinch of salt and pepper. Set aside.
  3. Melt unsalted butter over medium heat and sauté minced garlic for about 1 minute.
  4. Stir in plain flour and cook for 1 minute, then whisk in half of the milk, followed by remaining milk and chicken broth. Cook for 4-5 minutes until thick.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in cheddar and parmesan cheese. Season with salt to taste.
  6. Add tender broccoli florets to the cheese sauce, ensuring all are well-coated.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish, spreading evenly.
  8. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the casserole.
  9. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until breadcrumbs are golden-brown.
  11. Let the casserole stand for about 5 minutes before serving.
