  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese Can substitute with Monterrey Jack.
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese Low-fat can be used for a healthier version.
  • 1/2 cup Sour Cream Greek yogurt can be substituted.
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Chili Powder Adjust to taste.
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
For Assembly
  • 12 small Flour Tortillas Consider corn tortillas for a gluten-free option.
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil Can use canola or peanut oil.
Optional Toppings
  • 1 cup Fresh Salsa
  • 1 cup Guacamole
  • 1/4 cup Chopped Cilantro
  • 1/2 cup Extra Sour Cream

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked shredded chicken, shredded cheddar cheese, cream cheese, and sour cream. Stir until smooth.
  2. Add garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper to the filling mixture. Mix well.
  3. Lay a tortilla flat and spoon 2–3 tablespoons of the filling onto the lower third. Roll tightly and set seam-side down.
  4. In a skillet, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (350°F to 375°F).
  5. Fry a few taquitos seam-side down for 2–3 minutes until golden, then flip and fry for another 2–3 minutes.
  6. Remove taquitos and place them on paper towels to drain. Serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes

Store leftover taquitos in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Freeze un-fried taquitos for up to 3 months. Reheat in a skillet or bake directly from the freezer.
