Preparation Steps
- In a large skillet, combine blackberries, granulated sugar, water, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Stir well and simmer for 5–7 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, salt, and granulated sugar. Cut in cold unsalted butter until coarse crumbs form. Mix in buttermilk and vanilla extract until just combined.
- Drop tablespoonfuls of dumpling dough into simmering sauce. Cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 12–14 minutes until cooked through.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Serve warm with sauce, ideally paired with vanilla ice cream.
