Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine blackberries, sugar, and water over medium-high heat. Stir and mash blackberries. Cook for about 10 minutes until thickened.
  2. Remove from heat and cool for a few minutes. Strain mixture through a fine mesh strainer, pressing to extract liquid. Add vanilla extract if desired.
  3. Squeeze fresh lemon juice and combine with filtered water in a large pitcher. Stir well.
  4. Once syrup cools, gradually mix it into the lemonade, tasting as you adjust sweetness. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Serve chilled over ice, garnishing with fresh blackberries and lemon slices.
