Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together cake flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg whites and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients and alternate with whole milk until smooth.
  5. Divide batter among bowls and add pastel food coloring to each. Mix until uniform.
  6. Fill prepared pans with colored batter and bake for 22-25 minutes.
  7. Cool layers in pans for 10 mins before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Beat unsalted butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream. Mix in vanilla extract and salt.
  9. Stack cake layers with buttercream frosting in between, then frost the top and sides.
